Dosatron Water Dosing Pump System in Poultry Farms - Troubleshooting Guide

The Dosatron Water Dosing System in Poultry Farms: A Troubleshooting Guide

When raising chickens, the administration of vaccines and nutritional supplements is a critical aspect. These substances are commonly introduced through water or feed. For feed, a blending process utilizing a feed mixer is employed, while for water, a specialized dosing system integrated into the water supply line is used.

Among the various methods, let's delve into the specifics of the water dosing system used in poultry farms. One noteworthy system in this regard is Dosatron, which I currently utilize.

This is the Dosatron(d25re2) dosing system I operate on my farm.

The Simple Internal Structure of Dosatron pump

The complexity of Dosatron's internal structure is often underestimated. Based on potential issues and experiences, I'd like to provide insights into anticipated problems and their corresponding solutions:

Problem: Audible Signal Discrepancy

When administering vaccines or supplements, the distinct 'click' sound from the dosing system is crucial. Yet, there are instances when this sound might be absent or peculiar. Inside Dosatron pump, a black component is present. Gently remove it and alternately press and release a rod-like part forcefully. Afterward, retest the system – it should operate properly.

Issue: Correct Installation

Accurate confirmation of water flow direction during Dosatron installation is pivotal. Directional indicators are found not only on Dosatron pump itself but also on ancillary parts like filters and valves. This seemingly straightforward step holds paramount significance.

Changing: Rubber Seal Change

To address chemical administration concerns, disassembling Dosatron's gauge area is necessary. If uncertain during reassembly, capturing photos is a prudent approach. Reassembly mirrors the reverse sequence of disassembly. Pay close attention to the rubber ring; replace it if significant wear is detected.

Trouble: Inadequate Cleaning

Upon opening Dosatron's lid, you may encounter moss-like residues. A thorough cleaning regimen is essential. A filter, located at the end of the hose that draws chemicals into Dosatron pump, also necessitates meticulous cleaning.

Challenge: Freezing in Cold Seasons

Cold seasons pose the risk of freezing-related problems. If spare parts are available, consider replacement or acquiring new components. In winter, potential solutions include installing a nearby heat source or, in the absence of chickens, closing the main water valve and draining the entire line.

Potential Operational Errors

Valves occasionally appear open when they're actually closed. Carefully inspect valves, and ensure that water pressure remains within the designated range. Typically, using 2-3 bars of pressure should rectify most issues. Monitoring pressure via an added gauge is an alternative option.

Solution: Addressing Air Issues

Dosatron pump features a rubber part around the lid. By firmly pressing it manually, air bubbles can be eliminated.

Adjusting Tube Length

For optimal Dosatron pump use, maintaining a straight tube approximately 10 cm above the ground, as per the manual's recommendation, is advised. However, in practice, the chemical container is often placed directly on the ground, especially for vaccines requiring full dosing, often reaching the container's bottom.

Lastly, retaining the manual for reference when issues arise is crucial. Remarkably, solutions are often readily available within the manual itself. Furthermore, a significant portion of the manual's troubleshooting tips are centered around cleaning. Regular, thorough cleaning can effectively resolve the majority of problems.
